1. Creative Clerkenwell’s Christmas Pop-up Shop

16-23 December 2014 (weekdays 11am - 7pm and weekends 11am - 5pm)

Art and design enthusiasts will enjoy the Charlene Lam’s Christmas Pop-up Shop in Clerkenwell. Here they will find unique and creative Christmas gifts made by UK designers and crafters, as well as exclusive London souvenirs and limited editions, all specially selected for design enthusiasts.

Complimentary gift-wrapping will be on offer, and a portion of sales will go to charity, says Lam, benefitting Craft Central’s programmes to support UK designer-makers.

2. Bavarian Beerhouse Old Street

190 City Road, London EC1 2QH

The UK’s only German Restaurant & Bar chain claims to offer "an authentic German experience with a variety of drafted ice-cold beers served in huge stein glasses, accompanied by hearty Bavarian food". It promises great things for the Christmas period, with "Oktoberfest style Christmas parties",

German beers and a range of special winter drinks such as ‘Glühwein’ (mulled wine), traditional winter apple schnapps, and plenty of festive offerings for groups and parties.

3. Nigel and Louise’s Basement Grotto

Shoreditch Town Hall, 380 Old St, London EC1V 9LT

Nigel Barrett and Louise Mari are artists from "brilliantly weird experimental theatre company" Shunt. Their basement grotto show at Shoreditch Town Hall is a thrilling festive adventure that will "take the whole family to the North Pole to meet Santa through a fictional portal he uses to travel around the world"!

They recommend you take the kids during the day on Tuesday to Sunday, or go to a late night grown-up session at the weekend.

4. A Christmas Carol at the Old Red Lion Theatre

418 St John St, London EC1V 4NJ

Until 3 January 2015

Described as unmissable, the contemporary adaptation of this Christmas classic, Charles Dickens’ ‘A Christmas Carol’ by Neil Bartlett is directed by Gus Miller. In the musical, six actors play all the roles with great physicality, telling and singing the story of Scrooge in a "chilling, contemporary, fresh production".

5. Saturnalia Art Exhibition

Juno, 134-135 Shoreditch High St, London E1 6JE

An "alternative" Christmas experience can be found at Juno, the contemporary art space in Shoreditch. Exciting art collective ‘Sweet ‘Art’, a non-profits organisation dedicated to promoting upcoming and established artists through pop-up art events, is teaming up with Juno to bring you ‘Saturnalia’.

Through the visual imaginings of the strange Roman holiday of Saturnalia, with its sacrificial celebrations and spine-chilling legendary creatures, you can celebrate an out of the ordinary Christmas experience.

6. Christmas Wednesdays, Columbia Road

The famous Victorian stores of Columbia Road are opening their doors for longer in the run up to Christmas, so that shoppers can find the perfect presents from institutions such as Nelly Duff and Marcos & Trump.

This is the perfect place to soak up the festive London atmosphere.

7. Snapshots Christmas Festival at Rich Mix

35-67 Bethnal Green Road, London E1 6LA

7:30pm, 21 December 2014

Local, charity and enterprise, Rich Mix, is screening the Christmas classic, It’s a Wonderful Life for their Snapshots Christmas Festival. Put your feet up and enjoy a cup of mulled wine and, after the film, revelers can join in Rich Mix’s Christmas Ceilidh complete with live band and dancing.

8. Ninetyeight Bar & Lounge Mixology Classes

To impress at your Christmas bash, and throw a party like none other, take a festive mixology class at Ninetyeight Bar & Lounge on Curtain Road, and learn how to create amazing seasonal cocktails.
